Chief Russ Kaleiwahea is a 15-year veteran of Emergency services.
He has been a Paramedic for the last eleven years and was previously
employed by Thurston County Fire District No.1 and Thurston County
Medic One as a Captain/Paramedic.
Russ was a member of a Mining Rescue Team in the state of Kentucky,
while being employed in a mining engineering capacity.
He has also been a small business owner and technical advisor for
an Emergency response and planning software development company.
Russ has attended Brescia College; University of Kentucky (branch
campus); and Tacoma Community College.
In addition to Emergency Medical Services, Chief Kaleiwahea has
a comprehensive background in Fire Service administrative/management,
and fireground strategy and tactics.
Chief Kaleiwahea is a childhood injury prevention education
specialist and has been a advocate and leader of childhood injury
prevention. In 1994 he founded the Safety Awareness Firefighter
Educator’s (SAFE) Kids Club, the program is credited with
educating thousands of students in the Thurston County Region.
Russ was a member of the West Region Trauma/ Injury Prevention
Committee and an alternate member of the Thurston County Medic One
Emergency Medical Services Council.
Russ is a native of the Puget Sound area; he currently resides
in Thurston County with his wife of almost 23 years; and his four
children. His interests and hobbies include boating, fishing,
diving and sports.
